What pets are considered haram is a matter of ijtihad (i.e. the scholars opinion) as there is no strict verse in the Quran or hadith that does not permit having these particular types of pets. Rabbits are becoming popular pets across the world, so Muslims are concerned about whether they are halal or not. There’s a short answer to it: yes, it’s halal. Therefore, you can consume rabbit meat without any worries. Moreover, in a Hadith, it is narrated very clearly that Holy Prophet ﷺ ate rabbit’s meat.
I’m unaware of any interdiction against keeping hamsters as pets. Treat them well, and intend pleasing Allah by looking after His creation in whatever capacity you are able.
